Mattrad Fundraiser - April 18

Each year, the MATTRAD committee hosts a family friendly event that will have you feeling the love for fallen member Matthew Radawetz and inspired by this community. Since 2011, this event has raised $120,500 for Valour Place.

Join us for a Ukrainian dinner, a silent auction, 50/50, guest speakers, and music.

  • Date: April 18
  • Location: New Sapreta Agiplex
  • Tickets: $35/person, $250/table of 8, $20/kids ten and under, Kids 2 and under free.
  • Doors open at 4:30 pm
  • Dinner starts at 5:30 pm

New Updates to the House

Thank you to multiple Alberta Royal Canadian Legions and their poppy funds; we have new furniture in the family room and new TVs in the bedrooms. It is only with your support that we can continue to provide a comfortable, safe home away from home.

Thank you, Zak!

Since last September, Zak has been serving his 2nd-year social work practicum at Valour Place on Wednesdays & Fridays. Zak has helped us to develop new programs, brought awareness about Valour Place to rural Alberta communities, followed up with past houseguests, and provided a listening ear and companionship to in house families. His kindness, empathy, and friendliness are truly appreciated by staff and house guests alike. As his term wraps up, we wish him all the best in his future career and thank him for his time with us.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

  • Date: TBA Late May/Early June -Summer set up and yard clean up
  • Date July 30 & 31: Grand Villa Casino, Volunteers needed in all positions, and all are easy to do.

Join us on September 14th for our annual Walk for Valour. Every step you take directly helps Canadian heroes by keeping their families close during difficult medical journeys. In 2024, we provided 2,759 nights of stay for families. Your participation ensures we can continue to offer comfort, support, and hope—at no cost to families in need.

Event Details:

  • Date: Sunday, September 14, 2025
  • Location: Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park, Edmonton — or walk/run in your community
  • Distance: 2.5 km walk or run
  • Finish Line Fun: Canadian-themed activity stations and prize draws

🏆 Prizes:

  • Top Individual Fundraiser- Win the MOOSE TROPHY, Personalized Pathway Stone, and $300 Prepaid Visa card
  • Top Fundraising Team- Each member will receive a $100 Canadian Tire Gift Card (max 10 members)

Fundraising Incentives:

  • Raise $100 — FREE Registration (waived fee!)
  • Raise $200 — Signature Plaid Picnic Blanket
  • Raise $400 — Signature Lightweight Hoodie (plus blanket + free registration!)

Valour Babies!

This year so far, we have had 13 babies (4 girls, 9 boys) born to parents staying at Valour Place. Four of these families stayed at Valour Place for a total of 248 nights while their babies were in the NICU. We are happy to share that all families have returned home, healthy and thriving!Congrats to all the Valour baby families.

Thank you to all of you who purchased 50/50 tickets, as we now have a double fridge & freezer! We also updated our blinds and now have a luggage cart for guests to use. All of this is possible with the generous support of numerous Alberta Legions and their poppy funds. It is only through your support that we can continue to provide a comfortable and safe home away from home.

A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers who came out to various activities this summer. The MattRad committee is happy to announce that the 14th annual MattRad is happening on April 12, 2025 at the New Sarepta Agriplex. With the purchase of a ticket you can join us in our silent auction, Ukrainian dinner, 50/50, listen to our guest speakers from Valour Place, and most importantly, enjoy the company of your family and friends. MattRad has created a very loving and close community, and we would love for you to join it!
